Goulding, who was already occupied with the production of her third studio album, initially planned to decline, however, after meeting the directors and the rest of the crew, she changed her decision and began working on the song regardless of her already-busy schedule. Since it had to be sung and shot specifically for a movie, the filmmakers wanted the song to fit in with the tone of its controversial film topic. Production for this song began after Republic Records had contacted Goulding’s management and told them about their requirements. In addition to that, it also enabled Goulding herself to receive a nomination for Best Original Song at the Grammy Awards. Apart from that the film, Love Me Like You Do came up to the third position at the Billboard Hot 100. The song became Ellie Goulding’s most successful single by topping the charts of over 25 countries including Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Slovakia, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain,, and Switzerland.
